A Gloucester Rugby fan and self-confessed ‘Shed head’ from Hardwicke is scrumming down with a new Mitsubishi L200 pick-up after winning first prize in the club’s Community Charity raffle.
Bart Kane, 66, will get to use the striking truck for a year after Gloucester Rugby’s main sponsor, Cirencester-based Mitsubishi Motors in the UK, donated the prize as part of its longstanding partnership with the ‘Cherry and Whites’.
The chance to drive the same vehicle as a number of Gloucester Rugby players saw the club’s supporters purchase over 5,000 tickets, raising more than £5,000 for the Gloucester Rugby Community Charity that is dedicated to changing the lives of young people through rugby.
Semi-retired HGV driver Bart was presented with the Mitsubishi L200 Barbarian double cab at Gloucester Rugby’s Kingsholm ground and, given his passion for his local club, there was only one colour that he considered – bright red.
As the father-of-one explained, winning the Mitsubishi L200 came as a huge surprise: “I thought it was a joke at first and had to call back to make sure it was true. My friends still don’t believe me, but they’ll certainly see me coming in the truck – as a supporter of the club I had to have it in red! It looks great and I’m really looking forward to using it.”
Mike Turner, Commercial Director, Gloucester Rugby, said: “Mitsubishi Motors in the UK are an outstanding partner to Gloucester Rugby. Their contributions to assisting us in raising funds for the Gloucester Rugby Community Charity and their ongoing partnership support has been incredible. We are delighted that Bart can enjoy the L200.”
Martin Woodward, Partnership Engagement Manager, Mitsubishi Motors in the UK, added: “We are delighted to support Gloucester Rugby and providing the L200 was a fantastic way for us to help them raise funds for their invaluable Community Charity. It’s an award-winning truck and one of our most popular models, so we are sure that Bart will have a great time driving the L200.”
Mitsubishi Motors in the UK has sponsored Gloucester Rugby since 2005. The manufacturer supports the game at all levels, rising from grassroots all the way up to international. Mitsubishi Motors in the UK has been a sponsor of England Rugby since 2016 and this year has become an official partner of Scottish Rugby. Additionally, it holds partnerships with Edinburgh Rugby and Salford Red Devils.
